Club Supporters 2009

We'd like to thank Warwickshire, Hampshire, Lancashire, Somerset, Gloucestershire, and Durham County Cricket Clubs for their generous support of the club this season.

Whitchurch Cricket Club

We field two weekend teams: one Saturday and one Sunday side. We play friendly matches against local clubs, touring sides and on tour ourselves. Most games are 35 or 40 over matches, though we do play a number of summer evening 20/20 games.

This year's tours took us to Brittany in France (Allez Les Blaireaux!) and our regular invasion of Northamptonshire (Go Badgers!).

Other recent tours have included France in 2006 and South Africa as well as special one-man tours of Australia last winter (Go Cormac!) and snow cricket in Spain.

We have a diverse squad of players ranging in age from 14 to 60-something drawn from Whitchurch itself, the local area and several commuting players from London, Hampshire, Sussex, and further afield.

Our stats prove conclusively that we welcome all levels of ability.

We welcome spectators and new players, so if you're interested come and join to watch a home game or join us for some relaxed but competitive cricket.

The club was formed in 1877 and we have been at our compact ground since 1923. The cricket club is beautifully set with a backdrop of wooded hills in The Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It is a delight to play our home games here.

Read a history of the club by Club President, Miles Whitelock here.

Kwik Cricket Day

Photos and a report coming soon. Honest.

Jack Frost secure draw

Skipper's report: The skipper scored 82 (more than ably assisted by Ryan and James) to close on a respectable 209 for 2 at tea but, quite rightly, all the talk over tea centred on the number of times he was dropped (5? 6? more?) in doing so. After tea the bowlers took over and, with Duncan skittling out the top order, Frost were left on a perilous 130 for 8 with 12 overs remaining. Unfortunately, Whitchurch were unable to take the remaining 2 wickets and Frost held on for the draw, finishing 25 short of the target.

Whitchurch Win and Checkendon't

Skipper's report: Runs and a run out, but don't mention the catch – Jack Gregory scored an excellent 42 to help Whitchurch to a competitive 190 (for 7) at tea. With two balls of the match left, and Checkendon holding on valiantly for the draw, he then combined with Musab to run out Checkendon's last man with a throw from the boundary. Whitchurch ran out winners by 15 runs.

The Streak Continues

Skipper's report: Whitchurch come through in another tight game. Batting 1st we put on 184 for 7 with notable knock of 38 late on from James Haggarty. Despite some [...] umpiring decisions Whitchurch took some excellent catches to win by 20 runs. Come on!

Greys Green around the Gills

Skipper's report: Whitchurch held on for victory in a close low scoring game.

Whitchurch posted a total of 104 but managed to bowl the opposition out for 88 in an exciting game. It was made all the more exciting by some comedy fielding on the Whitchurch side in the opening overs. Notable [in a good way] bowling performances fron Haz and Groagy and an excellent catch by Andy Heard closed the game out.
