We are a small but thriving cricket club in the village of Whitchurch on Thames in south Oxfordshire, right by the River Thames. We're also just over the River Thames from Pangbourne in Berkshire. We enjoy a gentle rivalry with our friends 'south of the river'.
The club was formed in 1877 and we have been at our compact ground since 1923. The cricket club is beautifully set with a backdrop of wooded hills in The Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It is a delight to play our home games here.
Read a history of the club by Club President, Miles Whitelock here.
Whitchurch on the way to victory in France at Les Ormes, July 2007.
We field two weekend teams: one Saturday and one Sunday side. We play friendly matches against local clubs, touring sides and on tour ourselves. Most games are 35 or 40 over matches, though we do play a number of summer evening 20/20 games.
This year's tours took us to Brittany in France (Allez Les Blaireaux!) and our regular invasion of Northamptonshire (Go Badgers!).
Other recent tours have included France in 2006 and South Africa as well as special one-man tours of Australia last winter (Go Cormac!) and snow cricket in Spain.
We have a diverse squad of players ranging in age from 14 to 60-something drawn from Whitchurch itself, the local area and several commuting players from London, Hampshire, Sussex, and further afield.
Our stats prove conclusively that we welcome all levels of ability.
We welcome spectators and new players, so if you're interested come and join to watch a home game or join us for some relaxed but competitive cricket.

Draw at BBC Caversham
Despite a good all-round bowling performance, Whitchurch couldn't take all the wickets in time to avoid the draw.
Stonor too strong
Despite posting a respectable 191, with Duncan Seward making 90, Stonor beat Whitchurch by 8 wickets. See the results page for the skipper's report.
6 catches dropped...
which helped OMT to 176, with Whitchurch's batting also struggling to just 81 all out. At least it was a nice sunny afternoon.
Skipper's report... Whitchurch was quarantined off on Tuesday night after a severe bout of the dropsie. 11 men were found to have contracted the disease against Old Merchant Taylors (it is believed that OMT may have brought it in from abroad on one of their foreign trips to buy spices and silks in the Orient). Suffice to say Whitchurch lost... and the badger may have to be put down as a consequence!
BP strike leather...
... but not enough to beat Whitchurch in the 20:20 game on Wednesday. Whitchurch won by 30 runs in an entertaining game.
Skipper's report...A good Whitchurch batting performance with contributions right through the team, lively running and plenty of boundaries got us to 152 for 8. BP fought hard with some big boundaries to keep themselves in the chase but finished 30 short with 1 wicket to spare. Skipper Cormac bravely used all 10 bowlers, including Whitchurch's top secret comedy bowler who remarkably took two clean-bowled wickets in 2 balls.
Checkendon Double
Whitchurch did the double over Checkendon on Sunday 22nd with a win by 35 runs.
Skipper's report... Victory last Sunday completed the double against Checkendon this season; a feat that isn't often accomplished over our local rivals! A ton from Andy Arthur and an 89* from Nick Hill posted a score of 247 for 4 for Checkendon to chase after tea. Despite losing early wickets, from some tight bowling and an excellent catch behind the stumps by Musab, Checkendon's middle order put on 130 in a short time and left them only needing 94 in the last 20overs. Running out their top scoring batsmen (110) with 50 still needed and only 3 wickets in hand left Checkendon with too much to do and they eventually lost their last wicket 35 runs short with 3overs remaining.
