Lashings World XI visit Whitchurch June 2006

Thanks to Whitchurch Primary school, for whom this was a fundraising event, the Lashings World XI cricket team came to play Whitchurch on 9th June 2006.

They came prepared for a tough game and cruised to 433 for 2 off 35 overs.

The Whitchurch response was measured, spirited and insufficient despite James Shanahan scoring an unbeaten 66. Lashings won by 281 runs.

The sun shone all day and around £15,000 was raised for Whitchurch Primary School next door. Probably, no definitely, the finest game ever played here.

Lashings innings: Greg Blewett 148, Phil Simmons 104, Tatenda Taibu 101*, Vasbert Drakes 67 retired hurt.

Whitchurch innings: James Shanahan 66*, Ronnie Kahn 29. Nantie Heyward 4/5, Phil DeFreitas 2/4, Courtney Walsh 2/17.

Winning Start
Whitchurch started the season with a good bowling and fielding performance to beat Pangbourne by 3 wickets in this 12-a-side 30 over game. Pangbourne batted first and made 94 all out. Williams H, Batchelor and Cole bowled great spells. After a shaky start Whitchurch's reply recovered to win with 3 wickets to spare at 95-8.
