| Sun 22nd Jun | Won | by 44 runs away vs Checkendon
Skipper's report: Victory last Sunday completed the double against Checkendon this season; a feat that isn't often accomplished over our local rivals! A ton from Andy Arthur and an 89* from Nick Hill posted a score of 247 for 4 for Checkendon to chase after tea. Despite losing early wickets, from some tight bowling and an excellent catch behind the stumps by Musab, Checkendon's middle order put on 130 in a short time and left them only needing 94 in the last 20overs. Running out their top scoring batsmen (110) with 50 still needed and only 3 wickets in hand left Checkendon with too much to do and they eventually lost their last wicket 35 runs short with 3overs remaining.

| Wed 25th Jun | Won | by 30 runs at home vs BP
Skipper's report: A good Whitchurch batting performance with contributions right through the team, lively running and plenty of boundaries got us to 152 for 8. BP fought hard with some big boundaries to keep themselves in the chase but finished 30 short with 1 wicket to spare. Skipper Cormac bravely used all 10 bowlers, including Whitchurch's top secret comedy bowler who remarkably took two clean-bowled wickets in 2 balls.

| Sat 28th Jun | Won | by 50 runs at home vs BBC Caversham
Skipper's report:
A quickfire 58 from Duncs set the badgers of to a roaring start then Richard Leach sucked the blood out of the opposition with an unbeaten 59. Finally Alistair Bachelor husbanded the team home with 3 late wickets as Whitchurch won by 50 runs. |
| Sun 29th Jun | Won | by 121 runs at home vs Jack Frost
Skipper's report: As usual the game against Jack Frost was good natured and a great day was had by all. Man of the Match was Harry Williams. Whitchurch batted first and amassed a competitive 257 all out, 20 minutes shy of our allotted time. Harry shined again with an aggressive 85. James Shanahan made 51 and there were also useful contributions all down the order. Jack Frost managed 130 all out 10 overs shy of the close. Frost got away to a flyer, staying at the run rate for the first 15 overs but Harry came on first change and took 4 wickets to change the game.
Duncan Seward bowled in tandem taking 3 wickets. Jon Steward wrapped it up with 2 quick wickets at the end. The Boat Race (more competitive and more important than the cricket) outraged the village as the high street was temporarily overrun for this great spectatcle. Whitchurch pulled away on the turn and ran out convincing winners. A double over Jack Frost is always welcome and thank you to my teams who were great on the day. |
| Tue 1st Jul | Lost | by 95 runs at home vs Old Merchant Taylor's Skipper's report: Whitchurch was quarantined off on Tuesday night after a severe bout of the dropsie. 11 men were found to have contracted the disease against Old Merchant Taylors (it is believed that OMT may have brought it in from abroad on one of their foreign trips to buy spices and silks in the Orient). Suffice to say Whitchurch lost... and the badger may have to be put down as a consequence! |
| Sun 6th Jul | Cancelled | Home vs East Haddon |
| Wed 9th Jul | Cancelled | Away vs Pangbourne 20/20 |
| Sat 12th Jul | Lost | by 8 wickets at home vs Stonor Skipper's report: Spunky holes out. Duncan holed out on 90 on Saturday as Whitchruch battled to an impressive 191 on a tricky wicket. However Stonor were just too strong batting, knocking the runs off for a couple of wickets with George Mattimoe being criminally under-bowled by the Whitchurch Captain. |
| Sun 13th Jul | Cancelled | Home vs Boar's Head Ardington |
| Sat 19th Jul | Drawn | away vs BBC Caversham
Skipper's report: Whitchurch come from behind. In tricky conditions Whitchurch put up an excellent performance to post 112 in their innings with Groagy and Lyn in particular weighing in with some valuable runs. However, despite some excellent bowling all round from Whitchurch, we were unable to bowl BBC Caversham out so the match was drawn.

Valiant Rearguard Action
Whitchurch draw vs Stonor
Captain's Report: Drowning men found close to Thames
Whitchurch clung on like a drowning man to a straw as they scraped a draw on Saturday. Stonor posted 253, with one of the openers scoring 120+, despite being dropped on 20 (Don't worry Lewis, Brian Lara scored 500 after he was dropped once). However a strong rearguard action from Craig Hampton and Dominic Motha saw us home.
Catches Win Matches
Whitchurch win away against United Oxford Hospitals CC
Captain's Report: 3 good catches from Mark, Lewis and Jon for Whitchurch wasn't matched by United Oxford Hospitals who proceeded to drop the Whitchurch skipper at regular intervals, allowing him to score 58. 3 wickets each for Mark and Nick, and an excellent spell of bowling by Andrew bowled UOH out for 162. Runs for Jack, Nick, Lewis and 'the lucky one' ensured that Whitchurch eventually ran out the victors by 4 wickets.
Boat Race Glory
Captain's Report: Williams L, Mutepfa, Charlton, Crist, Haggerty, Kilford A, and Steward Win Back Boat Race Title.
If only they could play cricket with the same aplomb that they can drink!! A 30-over game straddling the football saw Whitchurch run up 162 for 9 with Jack G back from his exams and back in the runs, and Hicksey brilliantly protecting his average. In reply Jack Frost recovered well from 85 for 5 to eventually win by 2 wickets with 3 overs in hand. And another catch for the boy wonder: that's 2 for the season and counting.
Sunday Best?
A victorious Whitchurch side.
(links to Henley Standard website).
Captain's Report: Everybody remembers their first !!
Whitchurch were led to victory at Checkendon on Sunday by Matt Kilford taking his first catch for the Club at the tender age of 11. Notable contributions from Andy, Lyn and Alan (proud father) with the ball ensured that Checkendon were bowled out for 139 at tea. After tea Robbie, Andrew and Nick made sure that the score kept ticking over despite the loss of a few wickets; Whitchurch eventually winning by 4 wickets with 8 overs in hand.
Headcase Skipper
Nepotists win
Captain's Report: A&E waiting times improving in Reading. Whitchurch bowled and fielded brilliantly before tea to restrict Nepotists to 160 for 8. How well we did, or didn't, bat after tea in being bowled out for 84 is a complete blank: having my head stitched back together by Zia (the very nice nurse) in A&E at the time. If Whitchurch could have batted for the same length of time I was in A&E – 3hrs 2mins – we would have won easily.
Pea Shelling
Whitchurch lose to Star 2009
Captain's Report: New Pea-Shelling Plant Opens in Whitchurch.
The Whitchurch team put their recent intensive training in pea-shelling to good use on Saturday by dropping 7 catches, which allowed Star to amass 231 runs in their innings.
Whitchurch made a good fist of a response with Closey and Duncan in particular putting in fine batting performances. However the run rate proved to much for the lower order and we were all out for 180.
10 Significant Figures
Whitchurch beat Goring
Captain's Report: Caught and bowled surprise – one very sharp and one relatively easy caught and bowled chance by Andy and Alan respectively – they never do that off my bowling!! - restricted Goring to 169 for 6. After tea, and without the usual alarms, Whitchurch chased the score down for the loss of only four wickets and with 8 overs to spare. More runs for Andrew, who says his average is now 134.3426759 – not that he's counting.
Bright Future
Whitchurch beat Hetaroi
Captain's Report: Congratulations to Lewis Crawleygay on scoring a 50 in his first game of cricket ever! Put Whitchurch on track for a good win against Hetaroi, who scored 180 in their innings, and Whitchurch even managed a customary mini collapse to make things a bit more interesting. Congrats also to Duncan on 5 for 31 off 11 overs. A fine spell of dibbley-dobbley bowling.
